1996 Outrage 17 Swim Ladder

Postby Matt164 » Sat Jul 28, 2018 6:45 pm

I finally got a Boston Whaler boat[—a 1996 OUTRAGE 17]. [At some time] before this boat had a ladder off the [transom]. I'd like [to buy] one. Where should I look [to find a swim ladder for a 1996 OUTRAGE 17 for mounting off the transom]?

Swim ladders are available from many vendors and in many styles. My expectation is any swim ladder or boarding ladder previously installed was an off-the-shelf commercial ladder, and not something fabricated by Boston Whaler specifically for that year and model boat.

On many Boston Whaler boats the boarding ladder is mounted to a small platform installed on the transom and supported with a custom-bent stainless steel tube which also functions as a hand railing and aids the swimmer in climbing aboard. If that platform is not on the boat, then you will have to create something similar for mounting a stock swim ladder.

This newer Outrage has a boarding ladder mounted to a small platform on the port side of the transom.

For OEM, contact your local Boston Whaler dealer to see if the current swim platform is available.

This is from the Resources section of Whaler.com showing the diagrams for a 1999 Outrage 17 II

Here is the diagram showing the details:

The platform is item #47. The ladder is #48 on this parts list:

If not available or realistically priced, contact Ray Martin @ Martin Marine Design. He makes swim platforms made for Whaler transoms.
