Trailer for a 1976 Montauk

Postby ByronH » Thu Aug 16, 2018 9:52 pm

I purchased a 1976 Montauk a year ago with a trailer of the same age. I have been busy restoring the boat. I am now in the market for a new trailer to replace the old one. I have done some research on the requirements, including the the fine advice contained in this forum. Located in SW Michigan, what would be a price range is should expect for one. So far, the only price I have received is $3,800 including tax and license, which seems quite high. The trailer would be galvanized, swing tongue, led lights and four bunks.

Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at EZ Loader galvanized adjustable trailer Model EZB14-17 - 2000. With swing tongue and LED lights options. Find a 'KNOWLEDGEABLE' EZ Loader dealer with experience. Hull style may make a difference in what EZ Loader recommends. 1976 is the last year for the old style Boston Whaler 16'7" hull. I think some late 1976 year models had the new 'smirked' hull design used from 1977 thru 2002. You might want to call EZ Loader direct for information (509-489-0181 PDT). Price should be less than $2K out the door.

What type do you want?

Galvanized or Aluminum? If garaged, galvanized is shorter in total length.
Springs or Torsen axle? If you trailer all the time, torsen is smoother riding.

Regardless of brand, you should not have to pay less than $2500 out the door including upgrading to radial tires and a spare tire with mount.
