Floating Mine pops up in Puget Sound.

Not your everyday boating event: https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/floating-mine-detonated-in-puget-sound-near-bainbridge-island/281-588493659

(A few other forum members are within stones throw.)

(And on a separate note: Locally, I have heard of some of the geoduck divers coming across (test) torpedo's. Both being related to our local naval bases and undersea warfare center.)

It was detonated less than a mile from my house. Despite claims it was inert, the explosives used shook my house. We had no warning so I thought either a large tree just fell or a propane tank blew. Eventually the local news and island Facebook page started to light up with what had happened.

The mine was discovered floating near a marina, lucky nothing bad happened!

Now it would be nice to know where it came from.

Too close the loop: The inert mine was from a 2005 exercise and a very localized deployment. The exercise focused on ROV's navigating and detecting under water objects. (The best part is the US NAVY stated not all the anchored inert test mines were recovered... better pick up their toys.)
