I just purchased a 13-foot Boston Whaler boat that is supposed to be a 1965 model. The stencil number on the well is 2C5993.

There is also has a tag on the transom all that is visible is: 1411 82I. I would assume it was BWC?1411?82I.

What is the actual model year?

The title says 1965.

Back in a day they didn't use BWC coast guard code. I would recommend to call Chuck Bennet -Whaler customer representative. He keeps all older HIN numbers in order most probably from day one. They used to handwrite that info together where that hull was send ( what dealership ).He was always helpful when I needed similar info on a particular hull I had interest .

See the FAQ for help.

If there is a metal tag riveted on the transom, that is a federal hull identification number (HIN). The use of a HIN began in 1972. The HIN seems to end in

M82I

which means model year 1982 and April.

You can easily deduce the general epoch by the hull form at the bow. The hull changed in 1971.

The stencil number range for c.1965 hulls does include the stencil number you have given. The boat is most likely not a 1965 hull.

The use of a federally mandated HIN began in 1972.

The manufacturer identification code (MIC) for Boston Whaler has always been BWC.

Prior in the introduction of federal law about hull identification and manufacturer ID codes, Boston Whaler used there own hull ID system, which they still continue to use.

Chuck Bennett can find the stencil number records of really old hulls, but those old logbooks won’t likely have data on a 1982 hull.
