2016 Montauk 210 Locker: Six Questions

Postby Montauk1492 » Tue Oct 23, 2018 11:09 am

I am the happy new owner of a 2016 Montauk 210.

In the anchor locker water easily enters from the top, and also from the open drain when I go far forward.

Q1: Is the anchor locker continuously wet and has mildew?

Q2: When its drain is closed will the fish locker stay dry enough to stow hand tools?

Q3: Does water leak into the console locker?

Q4: The locker below helmsman's seat does not seem dry; will a gasket at top lid solve the problem?

Q5: If so what gasket material?

Q6: Are the aft battery lockers designed to stay very wet?

I suggest you do not anticipate that hand tools will remain dry in any sort of below deck locker. I use inexpensive water-tight boxes, often sold as utility boxes for anglers or ammo boxes for shooters, to hold all the stuff I stow in a live well at below deck level on my Boston Whaler boat. For example, see

I think they also make these in a white color. They work well to keep out water and maintain tools and expensive spare parts in a dry environment.

You can find similar Plano boxes for as little as $6 each. See

I have a 2016 210 Montauk; my answers are below;
Q1: Is the anchor locker continuously wet and has mildew?

My anchor locker stays fairly dry, I do wash down my archor in the locker and leave the cover open until dry. Any water that enters the front opening for the rode flows down to the drain. I do have the locker lined with Dri-Dek that I customized to fit the locker. I also lined the fish locker floor and the floor in the center console. https://www.amazon.com/Dri-Dek-1x1-Inte ... VS6N8?th=1

Q2: When its drain is closed will the fish locker stay dry enough to stow hand tools?

As Jim stated I would not store any hand tools in an open environment. I do store towels, fenders and cleaning supplies in the fish locker, so far it has been water tight for me.

Q3: Does water leak into the console locker?

My center console locker stays dry

Q4: The locker below helmsman's seat does not seem dry; will a gasket at top lid lid solve the problem?

I don't have this configuration - I have have the livewell.

Q6: Are the aft battery lockers designed to stay very wet?

This would be my biggest frustration point with my 210 Montauk - water getting into the battery lockers and in the battery trays. Mold and algae are always growing on the interior platforms that the batteries sit on and it's a pain to clean. I drilled holes in my battery trays so the water would drain out and the batteries wouldn't be sitting in water. If anyone has a solution that solves the water sitting on the battery platforms problem please let me know!
