You can do it in a Small Boat

I just found this great saying The small outboard-motor boat is the ultimate magic carpet. It can be used to realize your dreams of adventure like nothing else, carrying you on journeys of seeking and of self to the point where you are pushing the limits of the boat and master.
Dave Getchell, Sr.

With it I found this video about a guy traveling the North Maine coast in a 17' Outrage (seems like an older model).
Take a look https://vimeo.com/143125306 is is 25 min but well done with lots of views of the 17' Outrage and it's set-up.
Enjoy.

Portland is my backyard.

The boat he runs is a 1996-1999 Outrage 17 II. I know a few members who run this model.

His "haul-off system" is often called a portable outhaul. It is the only way to anchor far enough offshore with the 9+ foot tides.

When he talks about the fog and shows the before/after shot he is between Peaks and Great Diamond Islands in Casco Bay. This slot is prone to thick fog that is slow to burn off. A large GPS screen with depth readings is important when navigating in the soup, especially between islands.

That is a nice boat (you have and the area to boat in) and to do what he did with all the electronics and provisions.

He is a real small boat champion. I have his excellent book- "The Outboard Boater's Handbook: Advanced Seamanship and Practical Skills". He toured the Labrador coast in an 18 foot Lund like I have. There is even a chapter called "Customizing a Whaler". Some very fine reading.

Thanks for mentioning this book. I ordered a used copy from Amazon and am looking forward to reading it soon.

These posts are great. Just watched the video and ordered the book. Getting ready to buy my first boat for this spring. Have a home in Brunswick Maine on a tidal cove. Will be retiring soon and looking forward to an active boating retirement!
