My father and I are new to the Whaler community, and we may buy a 1970 Whaler that has had a makeover. The seller will take $5,000.

Trailer is in excellent shape, and fits the boat perfect. New bearings, new tires. New winch. Lights work. New rollers.

Have new transom savor, and back straps for the boat.

I just finished doing this boat. Took it to the coast over Christmas and fished out of it for 2 full days with zero problems.

If you are not into a period-correct restoration, then you won't mind the non-Boston Whaler console and the T-Top.

I'd consider the value of the engine, the trailer, the new console, the T-Top, and all the accessories; together they are probably worth close to $5,000 themselves. You are getting what appears to be a nicely restored Boston Whaler 16-foot pre-smirk hull for almost nothing in the package.

If you like the configuration as it has been modified, it may be a nice boat for you.

Good looking boat for that price even if it isn't original. If engine is good go for it.

Personally, painting the inside really degrades the value. It does not hold up as well as the original gelcoat.

The floor appears to be modified in creating some type of a riser for the seat. Not sure why.

As a "custom" 16'7 hull that has been painted, older carb'ed 2 stroke, I think it is overpriced.

For comparison here is an original 1980 Montauk that has all the original features for $3900 in North Carolina.

PHIL--Note that the c.1970 boat under discussion does have a four-stroke-power-cycle engine.

However, that is a darn nice boat you found for $3,900. It is the newer hull and appears to be all original. That is much preferred over non-OEM restorations. If nice classic MONTAUK boat are that price, I may have to get one my self.
