130 SUPER SPORT Seat for less than $700

Postby charlg » Wed Mar 06, 2019 9:16 am

I am picking up a stripped-down 2018 130 SUPER SPORT. I don't want to spend $700 for one seat. I see [seats offered for sale] on Amazon. I am unsure if they would work.

[INFERRED: Give a recommendation for a suitable seat for a 2018 Boston Whaler 130 SUPER SPORT that does not cost $700]

It is impossible for readers to judge if the unspecified seats you have looked at on an on-line website would be suitable for your purpose.

Explain the criteria you are seeking in the seat for the 2018 130 SUPER SPORT. So far all we know is that you desire the price to be less than $700.

I want to see what others have used other than the factory seat.

I do not have a seat in mind. I am just looking for suggestions.

If it's the optional fishing seat you are looking for I recommend you buy the OEM seat. I doubt you can find a seat that will serve as well as the OE seat. It is very well crafted, durable, and looks good on the 13. It also has the advantage of being a perfect fit.

It is the sport bucket seat for the helm.

Yes, good advice. Many people start with 13-footers and eventually sell them to get a larger model. Selling a boat with non-OEM seating will be much harder than selling one with OEM seating. To improve on the design, fit, and quality of the OEM components used on Boston Whaler boats is generally quite difficult. A few dollars might be saved with a non-OEM seat, but it won't have much future value when you go to sell.

I have a 2017 130 SUPER SPORT. After one day sitting on the bench [seat] my back couldn't take it. I really wanted OEM bucket seats, but they are way [too] much money.

I purchased a set of [two] white Tempress fisherman's armless low-back helm seats. I bought them through [West Marine[ [Use initial capital letters for the proper names of companies--jimh]. I used one of [their] special sales for around $350 for two [seats].

I did not use the Tempress bracket [to mount the seats].

I just through-bolted the [Tempress] seats [through the Boston Whaler] bench[seat] into threaded mounts on the seat bottom.

The [white Tempress fisherman's armless low-back helm seats] look great and are comfortable.

Are the OEM seats from Boston Whaler that are the mentioned several times in this discussion priced at $700 each?

Yes. Part #901-10009, called Bucket Sport seat, and are $730 each.

Is it possible to get the actual name or part number of the seat being recommended? I searched for a seat with the terms "white Tempress fisherman's armless low-back helm seats", but the search did not seem to produce any one particular seat. I found seats priced from $99 to $400.

Also, where is TEMPRESS located? Are they a domestic USA company?

This what I found on Amazon. It is a seat and quick mount combo that also allows it to swivel. Only 4 screws will mount it to the Whaler bench.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001U ... X7Q5HDFSMG.

I also went to the Tempress site. They are a company out of Dallas, Texas.

Always good to shop the net. Amazon is not always the best price.

I see that the seat is cheaper if you buy direct from the manufacturer. They offer free shipping on orders over $99.

We bought three Tempress seats from the manufacturer for our Sport 13 several years ago. They are nice seats and much more comfortable than the original bench seat. We bought the very useful mounts that allow quick and easy removal. We mount two aft and one forward.

All said and done however they do not approach the comfort and quality of the OEM bucket seats under discussion. My best advice is to buy the OEM seat.

The seats I used are not folding seats.

They are comfortable and look [like the Boston Whaler seats].

Looks good. How did you mount them on the bench?

The seat bottoms have a threaded insert. I made a [template], scribed the bench, drilled four holes for each seat, and through-bolted with stainless bolts. I did not like drilling holes in the bench, but I decided to go that route instead of fabricating some sort of bracket.

The [seats] are good quality and very comfortable.

CHARIG--thanks for giving us a URL to a specific seat. However, we now learn that is not the seat that is being recommended to you by 1STWHALER.

Maybe we can get an actual URL from 1STWHALER to a webpage that shows the seat that he has been recommending and that seems to now be the topic of this discussion but has never been clearly identified by a part number or a URL to the manufacturer's web page and which no one has any information about.

I have a 2019 130 SS and initially I purchased the swivel folding seats that cost approx. $200.00 for the pair. Since running around in my 130, I have found that they are not that comfortable, swivel wants to turn on you when not wanted. I have spent the money for the OEM Bucket seats and can tell you that they are the only way to go. Exceptionally comfortable and supportive. Good luck. B

For me, swivel seats are an absolute MUST when running around in my 2016 130SS. I also needed the fold down backs that make it much easier to step over the bench to get to the rear of the boat. Nothing but OEM for my Whaler, but to each their own. I even bought a Bimini for my boat directly from Great Lakes Boat Top and saved myself about $300 compared to buying it from the BW dealer and got the same exact thing they supply to BW and installed it myself.

Same. I ended up with Wise folding seats with locking swivel mounts. They work well and look great. The folding backs allow you to easily climb over them, and the swivel mounts let you face the back of the boat--very comfortable.
