Wood Trim on MONTAUK console

Postby Acseatsri » Fri Mar 29, 2019 9:08 am

Are the console doors and trim on a Montauk 17 teak or mahogany?

Thank you. [Montauk console doors and trim] are in decent shape, but were varnished at some point. I'd prefer to go back to oil or something other than varnish.

What do most here use on teak?

I was thinking Cetol.

I do not like CETOL. It has too much pigmentation and turns beautiful wood into yellow-orange ugly wood.

I have no idea "what most here" use for protecting teak. I can tell you what I have used with reasonable results: WATCO TEAK OIL.

I use West Marine Teak oil. Seems like it works well. Eventually the oil will build up on the teak and you will have to clean the old built up old oil.
I just redid some of the wood after taking the boat out of storage.
