I am new to Boston Whaler boats. I am considering buying a 1964 13-footer that needs a lot of work

The Norman pin on the front of boat is a wooden dowel instead of a metal pin.

Has anyone encountered this before?

Is this normal?

Is this an indication of previous repairs?

Does your decision to buy the boat hinge on the wooden Norman Pin being an original component?

Thanks for the response. No the pin has no bearing on my purchase. I was just trying to learn something. Any information you can share about 13 foot whalers would be greatly appreciated.

I would concur. There is really no telling how or why the 55-year-old boat came to have a wooden Norman Pin. If you like the boat and the price, you should buy it.

If you decide to buy the boat, and if decide the wooden Norman Pin is not proper, and if you decide to replace the wooden Norman Pin, then replacement of a wooden Norman Pin with the usual metal Norman Pin should not be very difficult or expensive.
