I will probably buying an 1986 OUTRAGE 18 tomorrow. The OUTRAGE 18 had a very nice Yamaha F115 on it, but I am thinking about a 250-HP re-power. After 23 Boston Whaler boats, I have always wanted to do this.
I strayed from Boston Whaler in 2011 when I went with another dream, a 22 Donzi classic. I still have my 13, 11, and SQUAL, but I think it's time for a bigger classic.
I will keep you postrd on the purchase.
Jim—Good to be back.

Nick -
This is great news.
I ran an F115 on my last Outrage 17. While a decent motor, you will probably not like it's WOT performance. You may remember that Tony had one on his Outrage 18.
Are you thinking Tohatsu?

Re: My....things have changed here. New boat?
I agree.
Let's see how my offer goes.
I will be looking at 225 to 300-HP engines—depends on the deal whether a Tohatsu, Yamaha, Suzuki or E-TEC. No frigging Mercury. I am leaning towards Suzuki but boat is rigged for a Yamaha so we'll see.

I'm looking for over 60-MPH. I can cruise at 35-MPH at 3500-RPM or less.

Re: My....things have changed here. New boat?
Hi Nick—nice to hear from you after your DONZI absence.
More than 200-HP on an OUTRAGE 18 will be very hairy. You may recall T/T WHALE LURE had twin 115-HP engines, but that boat has since been re-powered with twin 90-HP engines, a la the great GAMBLER.
I drove both boats, and GAMBLER was a very nice ride, while T/T WHALE LURE was so squirrelly you needed a throttle-man and helmsman to really go fast.
By the way, MERCURY is now making their own engines—no longer repainted Yamaha engines—and they have a new 200-HP FOURSTROKE (not VERADO) with a white cowling. Boston Whaler is putting them on many of their boats.
I’d look an an E-TEC G2 200. They have the best power, best fuel economy, lowest emissions, and longest warranty (as long as ten years with some promotions). They use electronic shift and throttle controls (EST ICON II) and all-digital instrumentation. And Evinrude just announced they are going back to an all-white paint scheme option,

Re: My....things have changed here. New boat?
I'm going used. Reason for the 250 is there are plenty of them in Florida. Many buy the center console with 250's for boat show price, and a year or two later they re-power with 300’s or 350's. I will do more research as I am aiming for 60-MPH.
Who has some numbers for me?
I remember watching the video of the Montauk with a 300 HPDI in Sweden or somewhere—anything is possible.

Deal is done pending a sea trial. I think I did pretty good for $5500.

Re: Things Have Changed Here; Buying a New Boat
Is the boat in Florida?
Re: Things Have Changed Here; Buying a New Boat
About 3 miles from me. Been looking for years for the right boat and deal. Janis found me one about a year ago but turned out to be waterlogged so I passed. Found a good 20' but don't really want a 20' at this time. Like the 19 as well because it is pretty much the 18' but not the easiest boats to find.

Re: Buying a New Boat
Three miles away—that is a real find. If you put on a 250-HP engine, you should name the boat ROCKET SHIP.
Re: Buying a New Boat
Picking her up either tomorrow morning or Friday morning. Spoke with famed Whaler enthusiast Tom W Clark yesterday and I think I settled on a Yamaha F225. He agrees it should get me 58+ which is close enough to my goal and lighter and easier to find than a 250. I will be running most likely a 22" prop as well. I will not be running a jackplate due to offsetting the weight is probably not a great idea for a couple MPH. Will keep everyone posted on my project. It is not going to happen probably in 2019 due to the fact I need to sell my current boat to subsidize this project.
Jim as far as Rocket ship goes.....when I have Janis make me new decals the rear Outrage 18 decal will be Outrage 18 SP The SP standing for Super Performance.
