Chuck Bennett

Postby HawaiianWhaler » Thu Aug 01, 2019 7:20 am

Aloha,

After my last fishing trip I noticed that the outer portion containing the rubber flapper, of one of the transom thru-hull scuppers on my 1999 Conquest 21 had broken away and gone to Davy Jones' locker. Boston Whaler Dwg. No. PB210CQ1 shows this thru-hull as pc. 22 "THRU-HULL PLAS 2" SCUP W/FLAP" but doesn't give OEM information, so I used an email address (cbennett@whaler.com) with which I had previously corresponded with Chuck Bennett to ask him for the OEM, but that address appears to no longer be valid as the email was rejected as undeliverable; user unknown.

Does anyone know if Chuck is still with Whaler and, if so, what a current method of reaching him is? If he has retired, does anyone (jimh?) know who to contact in Chuck's stead?

Alternatively, does anyone know the OEM of the above cited pc. 22 thru-hull scupper?

Thankfully this thru-hull is above the waterline on my boat, especially when underway, so there was no water intrusion into either the bilge or transom itself, but I do want to replace it before my next trip.

Thanks,
HawaiianWhaler

While you can order parts through any local Whaler dealer, many prefer the high quality and knowledgeable service of Sue Lodel, Parts Manager at Twin Cities Marine.

Aside - In speaking to Whaler Customer Service they informed me that they are now only able to support models that are 10 years old or younger. One could postulate this change is due to Chuck retiring.

We, the Whaler forums, are the source for assistance with older models.

Chuck Bennett retired from Boston Whaler. I loved to talk to Chuck and hear his Boston accent.

I recently twice spoke with a Boston Whaler customer service rep named Tom and he was both knowledgeable and thorough, I think BW customer service is still an excellent resource.

Reaching Customer Service

Postby Phil T » Fri Aug 02, 2019 1:07 pm

The Customer service team is no longer taking direct emails. Chuck has retired so his and the service@whaler.com emails are no longer valid. They removed the phone number and added a web based form.

Not very customer freindly if you ask me.

I sent them my stencil #. Will let you know how they reply and what their new capacity is.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I ended up submitting a tech support request to Whaler from their site and, one day later, got a reply which provided all the info i needed. Good quick reply, but I still miss Chuck. He deserves a happy retirement but I can't help but miss an old familiar friend, which he was to all Whalers in need.

For those in need, the email I got from Whaler came from address: techsupport@whaler.com and the gentleman who helped me is Tony King and the number listed on the email is 1-877-294-5645.

FOR HAWAIIAN WHALER
Q: Can you share the info you received from Boston Whaler regarding the transom scuppers?

The transom scuppers were probably used on many models for many years.

I missed Mr. Bennett by a few days after his retirement. The person who answered was friendly but could not provide any info prior to about 2008-model-year, even though I had the HIN and other identifying numbers for a 1996 model. Chuck will be missed.

Sue Lodel came through for me with a threaded transom drain plug that I could not match locally.

I sent in my stencil like I said above and received an e-mail from a Tony King(Danny) the same day with the same info. Chuck would give us. Mine was shipped in Jan 1986 to Seals Marine in Tampa.
