Hello to all the whalers.

I purchased my first powerboat near the end of last year: a 2000 DAUNTLESS 160 with an old engine. I had the engine tuned up and took the family out for the first time: the engine die in the middle of the lake.

Out of frustration I re-powered with a new E-TEC 90. I also installed new steering cable, fuel line, electrical, and added a T-Top.

II like the boat a lot and it been fun for the family of four, but haven't really taken it out far with the kids. Sometime I wonder if I should take her out the Vineyard or shes a bit too small for the ride.

I hope we can enjoy her a few more years and maybe up for an upgrade to a bigger boat since I have a mooring up to 21-feet We mostly cruising for fun and a bit of fishing here and there.

What would you upgrade to next?
Thanks.
Ry

That looks great! More info on the t top?

I bought a 2000 Dauntless 160 last year as my first Whaler.
I just bought a 2001 with newer power and sold the 2000.

Looks like you got yourself a really nice boat, she looks like she's in nearly perfect condition. Congratulations!

As a long-time 160 Dauntless owner, I wouldn't hesitate to go a longer distance, but I'd keep an eye on the weather forecast. I've been out in as much as 4-5 foot breaking chop, and while I felt pretty safe it wasn't very comfortable. As a small boat, it's hard to run fast in more than 1-foot waves.

After 16 years with my boat I'm thinking about bigger options, though not ready to make a move yet. On my short list are the 210 Dauntless, 240 Dauntless, and probably the top of my wish list right now is the 230 Outrage. I've been checking under the couch cushions and under the seats in the car and, while I've found a bit of change, I'm still short of the $100K needed for the upgrade. :-)

I went to a boat show this weekend in Boston. Oh boy. The 210 Dauntless is an eye catcher with a $85,000 price tag. I'm start saving now.
