Advice on Buying a Dauntless 16

Postby Harlemsgt » Wed Apr 08, 2020 8:42 am

I'm in the market for a Dauntless 16. I have a budget of $12,000 and that depends on boat-engine-trailer combination.

I prefer no bottom paint but would make an exception for a clean boat. The trailer and engine are not as important as a clean, unmodified boat. I am willing to travel for the right boat.

I recommend you change your request to include the 160 Dauntless which is the same boat with a later manufacturing date. Include the 160 in any search engines you use. The 170 Dauntless replaced the 160 some years ago. You may want to check out the 170 on the Boston Whaler web site. If you appeals to you you can always include it.

I mention this as Dauntless 16s in good condition are hard to find.

$12k budget is not going to get you a newer model. There is a 2001? in FL with a 115 4 stroke for $10k but no pics on CL.

Hello,

I purchased a 2003 160 Dauntless with the four stroke 115 Merc option which that had 73 original hours on it, the owner rarely used it as his dinghy for 100' yacht. It was a salt water boat but I the survey said it was meticulously outfitted and maintained. I was searching for about 18 months to find a 160 and had several that didn't survey well or the were sold before I could finalize an offer. It was expensive to ship it from Florida to Michigan but now 3 years later definitely worth it. I made a full price offer on the boat as soon as it was located pending survey. The boat, motor, trailer, and all the trimmings was $18,500. Good luck in your search, patience was the key in my experience.
