Boston Whaler boats, prior to the change to mandatory tie-in sales with Mercury engines following change in ownership to the Brunswick corporation, were often powered by Evinrude engines. The codes are for 1980 model years to present. Pre-1980 uses a different system which is fine if you look it up but not necessarily the easiest to decipher just by looking at it. Below is a list of model codes for an OMC 25hp. As you can clearly see the #9 in the model number shows that it is a 1969. Look at the 1979 model and it is almost identical so some could guess the wrong decade just by looking at the model number.
