220 DAUNTLESS Trolling Motor

Postby Big e » Tue Jul 21, 2020 5:46 pm

Hello. I'm on my second [Boston Whaler boat ownership]. I am new to this forum.

I just bought a 2007 220 DAUNTLESS with the trolling motor wiring already run with the fishing package.

Is a 80-lbs thrust 24-Volt trolling motor with a 60-inch shaft sufficient?

The two battery trays in the center console seem to indicate [a 24-Volt trolling motor] would work.

ALSO FOR OTHER OWNERS OF A 220 DAUNTLESS: what do you think [about installing an 80-lbs thrust 24-Volt 60-inch shaft trolling motor and using the two battery trays in the center console]? Thanks

I own a 160 DAUNTLESS, and I use a MinnKota 24-Volt 80-lbs-thrust trolling motor with SPOT LOCK. I am considering upgrading to a 36-Volt 72-inch shaft model. In normal situations the 24-Volt system is plenty for my 160 DAUNTLESS. In a good chop, the trolling motor will come out of the water. I even took off the lift assist to give me a full 60-inch [shaft length] The lift assist steals about 4-inches from the shaft length.

In the strong currents under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, I need to use my outboard to help the SPOT LOCK .

I don't know the actual differences between [a 220 DAUNTLESS and a 160 DAUNTLESS] or how you intend to use [the 220 DAUNTESS] but 60-inch [shaft length] sounds a little short. [A thrust rating of 80-lbs] will probably be okay for most uses.

[Moderator's note: on CONTINUOUSWAVE the hash tag or octothorpe symbol (#) is not used to mean avoirdupois weight. Please use "-lbs" to denote pounds avoirdupois weight. I have corrected all use of the hash tag or octothorps to mean pounds avoirdupois weight in this thread. Electrical units like Volts, Ohms, and Amperes are named after people and are capitalized. Dimensions in inches are not marked with double quotation marks; inches is just spelled out.]
