170 Montauk Value
170 Montauk Value
After months of searching, I've located a used 170 Montauk that I've comfortable with. The boat was used primarily as a second or third boat by two prior owners. The boat has relatively low hours, and is in very nice shape. Boat sales have been off the charts in the Northeast in since Covid, and prices have really escalated. In general, the many boats I've seen have sold on average for thousands more than NADA. Advice on determining current value is appreciated.
Re: 170 Montauk value
NADA has never been accurate for real world Boston Whaler values. 20 years ago NADA had an average value for a 15 foot Boston Whaler at about $800. When in reality at the time they were selling for around $5000. Although limited in scope, Hagerty Classic Boat Values guide is closer to real life values of many Boston Whaler boats.
Re: 170 Montauk value
Thanks Frontier, yep I'm still coming in a bit high versus NADA, and Hagerty. I've checked the boat wizard site as well.
Re: 170 Montauk value
What year, options, engine, and trailer?
Re: 170 Montauk value
The provenance of a 170 MONTAUK won't have any effect on value as a used boat.
With no other information than "170 MONTAUK" there is no possible way to make an appraisal.
You are buying a boat at the peak of its seasonal value. Expect to pay more for the timing of the purchase.

Re: 170 Montauk value
[The 170 Montauk boat to be appraised is a model year] 2013. The 170 Montauk boat is very clean and has a 90-HP engine with about 200-hours run time. The hull has bottom paint. The hull gel coat is glossy.
The 170 MONTAUK has a cooler seat with cushion, a bow cushion, a swim platform, a swim ladder, a 22-gallon Moeller white aftermarket fuel tank, a fishing tackle box, and seat and console covers. There are no electronics and no Bimini.
The trailer is a 2013 Boston Whaler trailer with swing tongue.
Nothing requires immediate attention.

Re: 170 Montauk value
Expect an asking price of $25,000 to $30,000 depending on location. For New England, probably higher prices will be likely.

If you have been looking at used 170 MONTAUK boats for months, you should already have a very good appreciation of the asking prices for used 170 MONTAUK boats in your own local area.
Re: 170 Montauk value
With limited availability, and the years I've looked at ranging from 2003 to 2016, asking prices are all over the board. The range you've quoted is higher than I anticipated, and higher than I see on NADA. Asking price for the subject boat is 25,900, owner will take 22,500. Based on your response, I'd say I'm in the ball park and it's a decent deal.
