Looking For A Lost 1969 Sakonnet

Postby Kokomo » Wed Nov 25, 2020 2:04 pm

[I am l]ooking for your help to find THE 1969 Sakonnet I owned at the age of 14-years-old.

My Dad bought this 1969 SAKONNET directly from the Boston Whaler factory in Norwell, Massachusetts. It was used at the New York and Boston boat shows that year. My Dad’s best friend was Dick Gordon, an engineer at Boston Whaler, and Dick made the arrangements to sell the 1969 SAKONNET to us. I absolutely loved that boat.

Stupidly, I sold it eight years later [in 1977] to a guy in Braintree, Massachusetts, and I have lost track of it for the last 40-years or more.

A interesting event occurred while going through some of my deceased father's belongings: I found the original Massachusetts registration number: MS 1706V. On the registration, the hull number was listed I am now in the hunt to find that boat.

To anyone who owns, or knows of, a 16foot hull with the stencil number 3A0923: I would love to talk with you.

I promised my wife I would not buy another boa, but this is my only mulligan I have left with her.

Please help me find 3A0923.

I checked a registry on WhalerCentral and did not see your stencil owned by any member there who posted their boat's stencil number. The stencil number 3A0923 is [appropriate for] a 1969.

My Dad bought me a new 13-footer in 1982 when I turned 13. I sold it in 1986 when I was 17 and took over the 19-foot Boston Whaler. I sold it to my friend's neighbor so I saw it about everyday. When I moved to Florida in 1998.

I would leave a note on my neighbor's door when I returned [to New Jersey] saying I want first dibs. He called me in 2006 and said, "Make me an offer."

It was 20 years to the day from when I sold that 13-footer. He gave me my Dad's bill of sale from 8/26/1986. I still have it and my wife won't let me sell it--go figure. I forgot how terrible the 13-footers are in anything but smooth waters. I wish it was a 15-footer I had sold him.
On my 24th Whaler. Currently in the stable: 86 18' Outrage, 81 13' Sport(original owner), 87 11' Sport, 69 Squall(for sale cheap).
