With the unseasonably warm weather, I decided to take my 1985 SPORT 15 for a ride in Lafayette, Louisiana’s Vermillion River. The SPORT 15 is powered by a 2014 Yamaha F70 with about 150 hours since new.
My total trip today was 35.8 miles and the engine used 3.4 gallons of gasoline, for approximately 10.5-MPG. I was alone and had a full 9-gallon tank of fuel to start. I had a very light load and kept the throttle at 4000 to 4500 RPMs for most of the ride. On previous trips, I have averaged about 9.5-MPG, but I always had passengers.
In addition to being fuel efficient, my SPORT 15 is a fun ride. It is my favorite boats of all time. I have owned over 20 boats in my life but none have compared to my 1985 Boston Whaler SPORT 15.

Re: A Nice Day for a Ride
My favorite of seven boats so far was my 1983 SUPER SPORT 15.
I repowered it with a Honda 50, which turned out was a bit underpowered. The SUPER SPORT 15 was a boat that inspired awe. I had a 28-gallon fuel tank; the boat could be run almost all season with refueling.
