Value of c.1958 Hull

Postby pilatti1 » Mon Apr 25, 2016 8:51 am

I have what I believe is a 1958 Whaler; the number on the boat is FP97. I think it is one of the first ones made under the Fischer-Pierce. The boat is in decent shape. It has some repair patches on the floor and the original wood needs to be sanded and varnished. I am thinking of parting with it and need to know if it has value. Or, is it just another old boat? Any help would be appreciated in my decision to sell it. Thanks.

In 2016 a c.1958 hull is just a 58-year-old hull, unless you find a buyer who is a collector of old Boston Whaler boat hulls. As you probably know, the "FP" designation is quite unusual, and there probably are very few boats with such markings. Maybe in two more years at the 60th Anniversary the interest in such a relic might increase.

Do you use it as a boat?

Thanks for the reply. Currently it the boat on a trailer under a tarp in my backyard. I have not had the boat the water for a few years. Where would be a good place to post for a collector to see the boat and make an offer?

I do not know of any on-line website for posting notices that is exclusive to collectors. I suspect that by having this discussion in THE GAM there would already be a rather wide distribution of the knowledge that you may offer this hull for sale.

Where is this boat located? Can you post a picture? I would think that actual condition of an older hull such as this would be a major factor in determining value. To the right buyer there might be a higher intrinsic value with the FP designation if the hull does not require major work.
