1972 SOURPUSS 13 with Teak Wood Interior

Postby youllsee » Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:02 am

I recently restored a 1972 SOURPUSS 13. In the course of the restoration I don't see any evidence that the boat was altered from original other than the wood is all teak.

Q1: did Boston Whaler offer an option for the wood in the interior of a 1972 SOURPUSS to be teak instead of mahogany?

Congratulations. The 1972 Sourpuss 13 is one of the best boats ever made by Boston Whaler. And it is rare, too. The SOURPUSS was made in one year only with the new style smirk hull, and it was the last Sourpuss with the blue interior.

The OEM cushions are amazing; to quote the 1972 Boston Whaler brochure: "Cloth-covered special foam seat cushions are warm to sit on, with comfort equal to conventional pad of much greater thickness. Lace in place, can be reversed and removed to launder".

We loved ours and had it for 15 years. I am almost sure our SOURPUSS 13 had a Mahogany interior.

I just checked the March 1, 1972 version of the Boston Whaler Boat and Accessory Price list, and I didn't see a teak option for the 13.
