Boston Whaler 2016 230 OUTRAGE

Postby jimh » Thu May 26, 2016 10:34 am

Boston Whaler just introduced a new 23-foot center-console boat, their 230 OUTRAGE. This should be a popular model. It's bigger than a classic 22-foot Outrage: 8-inches longer and a 13-inches wider.

See: http://www.bostonwhaler.com/Page.aspx/p ... trage.aspx

There is test data for the hull with a 350-HP FOURSTROKE VERADO, which can push it to 54-MPH. Between 27-MPH and 34-MPH, fuel economy tops out at 2.67-MPH. The boat has a rather large 110-gallon fuel tank, giving it a range of about 250-miles at optimum cruising speed.

In the image gallery at image 13 of 15 there is an interesting view of the boat rigged with a lot of sun shades.

The transom is a full-width transom and the boat can be ordered with twin engines, either twin 115-HP or twin 150-HP Mercury FOURSTROKE (not VERADO). This is somewhat of a departure from recent smaller boat designs from Boston Whaler which have tended to be configured only for single-engine power due to a narrow transom engine opening.

Damn--I love my 190 OUTRAGE, but I really like this new [230 OUTRAGE.] I'd prefer the twin 150 FOURSTROKE engines over the FOURSTROKE VERADO single engine. I would love to see one of these in person. When will they be released? What will the price be?

[Deleted sidebar discussion on how Boston Whaler uses different year designations in different literature that describes this boat.]

I have not seen any indication of the MRSP, but I would not be surprised to learn the MRSP was around $100,000, particularly for the twin-engine configuration.

Boat sales seem to be stimulated by introduction of new models. Boston Whaler has been very active in producing new models in the past few years. The era of making the same boat for 20-years seems to be over. Since Boston Whaler has a ten-year hull warranty, they usually retain all the molds for a particular boat for at least ten years after the last production. They must be accumulating a very large inventory of hull molds to retain for possible warranty work, given the many models they've made in the last decade.

The new 230 Outrage is a beautiful boat designed for offshore fishing. It will have decent range at cruising speed with a 110 gallon fuel tank. The ability to install twin engines will be a big plus for many offshore anglers who demand twin engines for offshore safety and reliability.

If it prices out at $100,000 decently optioned it will be very competitive in the upper tier market.

What is the protuberance on the bow near the waterline?

You can see the unusual bow hardware best in this image:

My guess: it is a special bow towing fitting to permit the boat to be towed as a tender to a much larger yacht. In the listing of "notable options" you can find an option for "Bow tow eye." The boat pictured probably has that bow towing eye option.

I found this on the Whaler Facebook page.

"Official Boston Whaler Owner's Club The base price for this boat is around $88,900."

A $100,000 is around $88,900. in the boat busyness.

Nice boat but it makes the old bought and paid for Outrage 18 look pretty good.
