WTB - 316 Stainless 60 degree tees for Newport railing

Postby OldKenT » Fri May 05, 2017 3:52 pm

The prior owner of my 1976 17' Newport replaced four rail tees with universal tees using set screws. I am looking for original parts or equivalent. The originals are drilled and counterbored 316 stainless 60 degree tees for 7/8" O.D. rail. Drilled and counterbored 90 degree tees were widely used by Whaler on many 1970s and 1980s models, but I know of no models other than the Newport which used the 60 degree tees. The drilled and counterbored style allow use of #10-24 x 1/2" stainless machine screws which nicely fit into the counterbore on the tee and can screw into either the railing itself (if tapped) or a hot dog which fits inside the railing and is also tapped. Twin Cities and CMI tell me these tees are no longer made or available, so I am looking for good condition originals or equivalents. I need two tees for port and two for starboard. I believe the upper holes on the originals were 1 and 3/8" center to center, or a minimum of 1 and 1/4". For an example of a drilled and counterbored 90 degree tee for 1" tube, see P/N 6136 at whitecapindustries.com. Their P/Ns 6044 for port and 6045 for starboard are similar and I think would work by replacing the set screws, except for the lack of counterboring. Thanks for any help. Ken

Sorry. Reference should be to whitecapindustries.net, not .com.

Take a look at SeaDog part number SDL 291600-1 (Left Hand) and SDL 292600-1 (Right Hand).

frontier, thanks for the reference. I think the sea dog items are very similar to what I now have. The reason I want to switch them out is to get tees with holes on the sides which will allow screws to go into or through two separate rails which meet inside the tee. The Whitecap 90 degree tee #6136 is what I need, but in a 60 degree version. I think the sea dog version is similar to the universal tee, and lacks holes in places to allow that.

Why not just drill and tap the SeaDog?

I could certainly do that, but wouldn't be able to counterbore them, so I am trying to return to the original style of tee if possible.
