WTB: Prop 14".5x17pitch

Postby Tacky79 » Sat Jun 17, 2017 6:12 pm

Looking to buy a new propeller for our 190 Montauk w/ the Merc 150. The stock is the 14.5" diameter, 17 pitch, so I thought I'd find something very close to that. Stainless or aluminum is fine. Let me know if you have one!

Tacky,

Have you tested the propeller? Is there a specific make and model you are after? There can be a lot of performance difference between propellers of the same size depending upon the make and model.

Butch - I was looking to go with the "stock" prop that comes on the 190 Montauk, as I'll be traveling to sea level and it was recommended that I swap from my 15 pitch to something higher in pitch. I figured the stock one would be a good starting place. I could try them out, but we'll be on vacation, and not sure if it is worth spending time trialling multiple props? But... I'd (of course) take advice.

Check with your dealer as he would likely have the propeller from your engine when the boat was delivered or, if not, he can tell you the Mercury model and part number. You can then ask for that specific propeller here. The propeller is likely a stainless steel model. Steel is almost always a better choice due to it's durability and often better performance due to it's rigidity compared to aluminum.

Tacky -

There is no STOCK prop. There is the standard prop Boston Whaler includes when you buy that boat/motor combination.

Boston Whaler selected the Mercury Enertia prop in the 14.5 x 17 size because that was the best Mercury prop for that boat and that Mercury engine model.

Size is NOT universal so when you say 14.5 x 17 what you really mean is you are looking for an Enertia prop in the 14.5x17 size.

Every manufacturer has their own blade shape and cup design so the diameter and pitch sizing is unique. Size is not consistent even within manufacturer's product line.

A Turbo or Solas or brand X in that size is not even close to the same so it will perform differently.
A Yamaha painted stainless and the Yamaha Performance prop sizes are not similar.
