I have a very nice 1984 Boston Whaler 17 Guardian (Montauk). The boat has the inlaid red gel coat dots on both sides indicating work boat order. It was originally purchased by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation as a patrol boat. After retirement it was re-powered, had some minor body work done, and was turned into a civilian boat. The boat looks and runs great.
The new engine is a 1987 Mariner three-cylinder two-stroke-power-cycle. The engine had a tune up this spring, has new hydraulic trim-tilt, has great compression, and starts and runs like new.
The boat has all the railings, console, depth finder, covers, bimini top, new vinyl bow cushion, 24-gallon fuel tank, new vinyl seat cushion, new marine cooler, all lighting works, tachometer, all new wiring two years ago, all new fuel lines two years, some of the wood has been recently redone the rest is overdue to be sealed.
Boat has minor cracking and crazing in the gelcoat but nothing major, would be great for a simple restoration.
The pilot seat is in the center and is reversible.
Trailer is not factory but has no rust and works fine.
What is a fair asking price?

Re: Appraisal: 1984 17 Guardian
If all aspects are in excellent condition, an asking price of $12,000 or more might be appropriate.
Re: Appraisal: 1984 17 Guardian
The photos are of such small dimension and low resolution, it is not easy to determine condition.
Typically a pristine 80's Montauk 17 with same era power would be $7,000 to $10,000--depending on location. Florida prices are on the low side, California prices are on the the high, and the rest of the country in the middle.

Re: Appraisal: 1984 17 Guardian
I just sold a 1986 Montauk with 2002 Yamaha 2 stroke for 9.5k in Florida.
It’s hard to tell from these pictures how my boat compared in terms of condition, but it was pretty good. I was pleased with the price I got for it. I would place this one at around 6-8 simply because of the power.
