APPRAISAL: 2001 21 Outrage - New Suzuki 200

Postby kingfish333 » Wed Aug 01, 2018 4:39 pm

Trying to sell our 2001 21 Outrage with new Suzuki 200-HP engine with less than 50-hours. Comes with a trailer. Everything works just fine except the trim tabs, ordered a new hydraulic pump to fix it. New batteries. New upholstery on some of the cushions. Bought it last year for $15,000, and then replaced the engine recently so we have over $30,000 in it out of pocket.

How much we should list it for?

Is the engine an in-line-4 or V6? This would assist in appraising the asking price.

If the $15,000 you paid for the boat last year was market value the current market value will remain close to $15,000. The new Suzuki power will make the boat far more desirable for most but at what premium? Perhaps a few thousand? The problem is that a buyer can buy the same or similar Outrage with a reliable engine for $ 15,000. If you increase your price above market value you should consider what boat can bought for the same price as your boat. Your other repairs add no value.

The asking price should not not be so high that a shopper will reject it out of hand. What you want is an interested buyer to contact you. Once you have made contact you can negotiate a price. Don't expect to recoup much of the cost of the repower.

That boat market value is around $25,000.

Had 2001 21 Outrage re-powered with 2010 Yamaha F250 that sold last year for $22,500.

I doubt market value can be based on a single sale of a similar boat with eight year older power. I believe the value of newish power on an older boat tends to be over rated. Not every buyer is willing to pay the cost of a sellers repower when the buyer can find similar boats with reliable older engines for a much lower price.

If one finds the right buyer the situation is different, of course.
