I have 1961 Boston Whaler and it is in good condition.

What could it be worth?

—2007 [K]aravan trailer
—1997 [E]vinrude 90-HP with new controls
—a [Super Sport Limited] interior.

This boat was the 249th 16-foot hull made in first year of production.

The NAUSET model is defined by the console and seating. If this 16-foot hull no longer has the original console and seating it is no longer a NAUSET.

What do you think the stripped hull is worth?

[I] have original bow and side rails.

If in pretty good shape I would guesstimate around $5,000 to $8,000.

Engine is probably $2,000.
Trailer $1,000.
Figure in the hull depending on condition to make the $5,000 to $8,000.

A 58-year-old bare 16-foot Boston Whaler hull is probably worth perhaps $1,000 to $1,500, but that is only if the hull is dry and in decent condition, original gel coat, no huge spider cracks, no bottom paint, no soft spots, no transom rot, and so on.

Value is rapidly lost if the hull has been refinished with paint, the hull has soft spots, has bottom paint, has lots of cracks, and has a weak transom.

More than 100,000 were made so these boats are not exactly rare. They’re not 1937 CORD automobiles.

These really old hulls typically only have special value if they have been passed down from older generations, grandparents’ boats from the old cottage.

For today’s millennials they often have no value.

I have original gel coat inside and out. The transom is solid and there are no soft spots ,but it does have spider cracks. In 1961 the first year of production Boston Whaler made one thousand 16'7" boats, from 1962 to 1968 they made 9750 16'7" boats. 1500.00 is a sad statement, how many 1961 16'7" do you think are still around ?

I have no idea.

The corollary question—and much more important to you in your search for an appraisal—will be: how many ready buyers are there that are desperately seeking a 58-year-old Boston Whaler bare hull that no longer has its original interior?

I'm thinking collector ,someone looking to restore a classic whaler and this boat would be an easy restoration.

Speculation over a boat's value can go on forever and it will be almost impossible to reach a consensus. List your boat for sale on as many sites as you can think of at a price you consider correct. The market will tell you the value of your boat. If your boat fails to sell at your price it is an indication that you may value your boat more than anyone in the market for such a boat. Your option is to continue to own your possibly very valuable boat or to reduce the price until someone agrees with you about the value and buys the boat.
