1966 Boston Whaler Nauset for sale. $6,500.00

This Boston Whaler Nauset, 16' 7," serial number 35247, originated in Michigan, then traveled to Florida with the original owner who was quickly intimidated by the shallow waters and sand bars of Charlotte Harbor, so he stored his "pride and joy" in his garage while his car took second place in his driveway. He repowered the Whaler in 1983 with a 70hp Johnson with all good intentions of enjoying the Barrier Island beaches of Charlotte Harbor with his quickly growing children. It didn't happen according to his plan. His children grew quickly, he lost interest in learning the waters of SW FL, so the Whaler was garage kept, maintained every year with all good intentions of using it, but that never happened. Fast forward to 1999.

When I purchased the boat in 1999, the 70hp Johnson had only 13 hours on the motor and the hull less than 400 hours in the water. I checked the boat from bow to stern, ran the engine, we agreed upon a cash price and when I towed the Whaler away I could see the loss in his eyes.

The Whaler came with the original Tilt trailer which I replaced with a new galvanized Continental trailer in July 2003. The few times I have had the trailers "feet wet" were to pull it from the boat lift to trailer it onshore to my yard, a distance of 1/2 mile, to service the 70hp Johnson and twice for Hurricane evacuations to the South East coast of Florida.

In 2004 Hurricane Charley hammered SW FL, I lost my house, my warehouse with all its contents, but when I evacuated for the storms, the Whaler was behind my tow vehicle headed for the East coast to "watch" the Hurricane as it came ashore in Punta Gorda where we lived on the water.

In 2011 we moved off-water and I have had this gem garage kept and out of the Florida sun since. In that time I have rebuilt the lower half of the center console because of "foot rot" from being outside on the boat lift and repeated washing. While rebuilding it with the guiding hands of a local boat builder, I raised the height of the original base three (3) inches, in doing so it commands a strong presence and a little more protection from rain or spray.

The engine was fogged for storage and is free when I hand turn the flywheel. I have full confidence that with very little effort and some maintenance (gas lines, etc) that it would start and still be a strong runner. I doubt that the Whaler has more than 750 hours on the engine and hull. There is electric tilt & trim, original Stern light, original 1966 Whaler Sales Brochure, Johnson OMC Owners Manual, all maintenance records during my ownership, ICOM M-45 Radio, Fire extinguisher, never used spare tire mounted to trailer, original Bill of Sale for the Continental Trailer and probably more accessories available including Dock Boxes etc.

Until my boat lift was installed, the Whaler was kept in the water for less than 30 days and I quickly learned what "thumb-nail" size barnacle scraping was all about. I then had the hull painted in order to confidently use the boat in SW FL waters while waiting for the Arrogant Seawall & Boat lift company to get to get my lift installed, otherwise it would be paint free today.

The Whaler has a crisp original blue interior, all the varnish has been done over every couple of years, I removed the side railings and have them stored (some components were lost in the Hurricane that hammered my warehouse) I also have most of the original tan canvas top with frame and possibly some of the side curtains .. again, thanks to Hurricane Charley.

I am forced to sell my Whaler as age and health is catching up with me and the "youthful enthusiasm" combined with the time necessary for enjoying this Whaler is less than I have. So, unfortunately I must offer it for sale for the next generation of Whaler enthusiasts to enjoy and eventually pass along.

The boat is currently in my garage, on the trailer, in SW Florida. I can be reached at 941-639-9338, most anytime.

The attached photo was taken off of Captiva Island .. Additional photos are available upon request to serious buyers. The additional images that I had intended to post are "too large" .. too many pixels, so I'll need to pull the Whaler outside and re-shoot them for a serious buyer.

I brought my 1966 Boston Whaler Nauset proudly out of my garage yesterday to wash and clean off the accumulated garage dust in order to take additional photographs, correctly sized, to add to this listing, and I actually took some pretty photos.

I had reset the digital camera and lowered the image pixel size on my camera, considerably less than the default setting, in order to get the correct "size" images which are generally accepted by most online selling platforms. Well, much to my surprise and disappointment, the images I had intended to post on the Continuouswave Whaler platform of my freshly dusted and cleaned Whaler were still too large to upload.

I am not technologically inept, however, I did not grow up with a computer or hand held device at my arms length and my computer skills have been self-taught. All reader / administrator suggestions are eagerly solicited and openly encouraged, as I am unable to add images to this posting and I would like to "show as well as tell" and to sell my Whaler to someone who appreciates vintage original classic Boston Whalers.

I suggest you find a grandkid or neighbor kid between the ages of 6-14 years old to help you with the pictures and your computer. Any older than that unless he/she is a nerdy type will be thinking about only one other thing and that will most likely be another she/he. Also, try real hard not to get offended when they tell you how easy this is to do and you really shouldn't have needed help.

Many thanks to Phil for his assistance in posting these images.

Since I don't have any six to fourteen year old kids to rely on for technical assistance, it is a given, that one former New Englander (Maine) will always help another former New Englander (Vermont) when asked politely.

Thanks again Phil for taking the time to reply and to assist.
Fred
