1973 Outrage 21 Ski Bar

Postby WReiter » Mon Jul 04, 2016 1:11 pm

Now that I have finished the re-power with an Evinrude 150 H.O. and Rebel stainless propeller, and [the 1973 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 21 boat] runs great--50-MPH--it's time to come up with a better system for pulling the kids on a tube. Currently, I'm running a cable between the two transom towing eyes, but then the line for the tube stays in the water which makes it very slow to move side-to-side across the wake.

Point me in the right direction to mount a ski bar bracket. I was on the water yesterday and saw a fishing boat with a cool chrome bracket on the back that looked like an inverted horseshoe with some triangulated bracing the went between the bow rails and was not obtrusive. It didn't look like it would really get in the way of fishing--an important consideration. Thanks!

Turboswing is the easy answer. I've had one for 5 years now on our Outrage 25. It is great.

Thanks, Russell! I checked it out. Looks like a good option -- pricey, but looks easy to install and the reviews are good.

I would love to see pics of this on your Whalers. I have a 1985 17' Striper that has been in our family since new. Original power. I learned to ski and kneeboard behind it and my kids are now too. Problem with the transom mounted harness that we are now using is that the rope drags in the water when pulling a tube and also when my kids are being pulled. This looks like a cool option.

Here is the Turbo Swing on my 170 Montauk. The Turbo Swing is very strong it installs by thru bolting through the stern. Easily tows two larger tubes with two of the roller clips.

Hi Ridge - do you know the tow bar tubing diameter? Looks like 3/4" or maybe 1".

I believe mine is 1" - but I can't measure it for two weeks as I am traveling. I purchased the TurboSwing XL model rated for 600 lbs.

Thanks Ridge. I'm going to put a towbar on my 18 and this design is interesting. My plan was to build a traditional tow bar as I prefer a higher pull point, but I like this round design as it's simple and out of the way. Appreciate your post and pics. Thanks, Mav
