Trouble Manually Raising 2009 E-TEC 90

Postby Ducktown » Sat Aug 13, 2016 8:26 am

The tilt-trim mechanism [on a 2009 Evinrude E-TEC 90-HP outboard engine] is on the fritz. I was able to lower the engine by loosening the manual release screw. Now the motor is in the full-down position and I can't get it to budge in an upwards direction in order to engage the trailering bracket. I've tried to lift it with the screw in various positions with no luck. Am I just a weakling or is there some technique I am unaware of?

Well, I guess I'm not a wimp after all. After failing to lift it along with two other adult males, I called a local "mobile" engine mechanic who came by with his pneumatic jack. We very slowly pumped the motor up to the point where I could engage the trailering bracket.

I'll find out the rest of the story this week from my local Evinrude shop.
