Evinrude MWS Cable Length Measurement

Postby peteinsf » Wed Aug 17, 2016 11:16 pm

Are Evinrude or Johnson MWS cable lengths sold as end to end (connector to connector) or just the protected un-striped center section?

I see that they are sold in 15', 20' and 28' lengths. The two I currently have don't have a part number stamped anywhere so I can't measure and validate.

There is a corollary to Murphy's Law for electrical cables. It says:

Any cable cut to length will be too short.

Keep that in mind when ordering a pre-made cut-to-length electrical cable assembly.

I don't think I have a custom MWS option. I was going to measure (with a line) the distance from the Outrage console to the Whaler Drive-mounted E-TEC engines and then pick the next longer available cable. I just did not know how Evinrude views the published length of their harnesses.

Hmm,

They are available in 20ft and 28ft lengths. 20ft seems a bit short with the whaler drive.

My thinking:

4ft from the motor to the enclosed well area.
4th to the tunnel
9ft in the tunnel
4ft to the Montauk style console.

It just seems odd to buy a 28ft cable for a 26ft center console boat...
