Evinrude 175 RAM Ficht - Code 22 assistance

Postby Wingman1100A » Tue Sep 13, 2016 5:34 pm

I recently purchased a 20' walk-around with a 99 (2000 power head) Evinrude 175 RAM Ficht. First time out I got a "HOT" light when running on plane at >= 4000 for ~ 10 mins. "SLOW" is activated even though I manually take it to idle in seconds. After idling for about 3-4 mins the light turns off and I am able to continue navigating the waters without getting the HOT light again as long as I keep it under 4000. Upon troubleshooting I found the EMM was not getting water. The fuel vapor separator is clogged. I "T'd" the water line to/from it and now have strong water flow to the EMM. Second time out I got the HOT light when again running on plane at ~4000 for the same or less time. Idle for a few mins and good to go again.

Service work done by seller after initial sea trial/test:
empty/flush fuel tank
new water/fuel separator
new fuel filter
new plugs
new thermostat
new impeller

Other misc. facts:
Compression check - 100-104 on all six cylinders
Running 93 oct with ethanol protection and fuel injection cleaner
562 hours runtime

I purchased the Evinrude SW and cable and I have attached screen captures of the historical and live data from the EMM. Where should I start. Feedback welcomed.

Thanks in advance!

Since the motor is a '99 , the powerhead is NOT a 2000 according to the software report. A 2000 175 engine is completely different.

If the EMM overheated, you would get a CHECK ENGINE light, not a HOT light.

With overheating problems, replace the whole factory pump assembly, not just an impeller. Monitor the water pressure at all speeds.

For code 22, test the switch and inspect the wiring harness for chafing, pinching, etc.

Does your motor have 3 thermostats and a pressure relief valve located on the port side of the block?
