1988 Montauk 17 Anchor Storage

Postby rlboeri » Wed Sep 21, 2016 4:13 pm

Wondering what you all do to store your anchor/chain/rode to prevent gel-coat damage. For years now i have stored mine in a 2 1/2 gallon bucket in the forward locker. But it is a pain in the butt getting the rode and chain back into the bucket without tangling it. I also covered the ends of the Danforth anchor with shrink tubing in an attempt to keep damage to a minimum. Is there a better way? I would love to come up with some type of a reel system, but the forward locker is just too small. Any interesting DIY inventions out there?

Thanks for your help,

Bob

Bob -

On both my Montauk and Outrage 17 I lined the bottom and sides with Dri-Dek squares (almond).

I used a 11 lb claw style anchor with 15' of chain and two (2) lengths of 100' of rode.

I stored the gear as follows (bottom to top)
- 100' of coiled line
- 100' of flaked line
- chain
- anchor

I placed a throwable floatation square on top for storage and to protect the cover.
