DAUNTLESS 14: Adding Bow-mount Trolling Motor

I know the Boston Whaler DAUNTLESS 14 had a factory option for a bow mount trolling motor. Mine does not have it. I am thinking of adding one. Has anyone added one?

And, could I get away with not removing the bow rail? I am [planning to install] a MINN-KOTA Power Drive V2 55-lb thrust trolling motor. They say it can be deployed where not a lot is above mount. Batteries will be mounted inside the front cooler seat. No electrical to be run inside hull.

I would suggest that you go to the old forum and search for "Montauk 17 electric trolling motor". I posted some pictures there, as did other members. I know you have a Dauntless rather than a Montauk, but I think the structure is similar. I'm pretty sure that the Minn-Kota 55 or similar is needed to slip under the bow rail. The scissors bases on other bow mount trolling motors appear to require too much vertical clearance. Just to be clear, I did not try other kinds of trolling motor bases. I've not seen pictures of other bases successfully adapted to this application.

I originally bought a Minn Kota 55 lbs. thrust but it was not enough for my 16' Dauntless so I went to a 24v 80 lbs. and love it. Here are some pictures of my installation
