Postby Kenny » Tue Nov 22, 2016 1:05 pm

[Seeks] information related to replacing the fuel tank for an OUTRAGE 17 with center console. Tips on if console has to be removed to do job. Tips on removing deck that is sealed. Any information would help.

Kenny -

The easiest way is to de-rig and remove the console. There are screws under the console.

Remove console
Remove screws
Cut caulk line
Lift cover

Start here and scroll through: https://get.google.com/albumarchive/110044231333731607664/album/AF1QipNRSlhK5zztZL25UoCGgPgW630pESBFms0hMILX/AF1QipOwXRwjw2gSuiNQwmLi9E-LwkDFjTHzg5PTO1wg

I would replace the hoses and pressure test the tank before removing tank.

I am in the process of replacing the fuel tank and the rotten wood under my deck. I am going back with Coosa Composite Bluewater 26 board.
The console must be removed. Just mark your wires and take a lot of pictures.
Feel free to ask questions.

The deck [panel covering the fuel tank is] ready to re-install--just waiting on new fuel tank.

When putting down the deck, what should I use to seal it? 3M 5200 or 4200?

3M 5200 is generally used for permanent bedding/bonding. 5200 is very aggressive but can be removed with careful heat application - keeping in mind that applying heat to a gelcoated surface requires extreme care to avoid damaging the gelcoat should the deck plate ever need to be removed in the future (heated gelcoat can get very soft).

For deck plate bedding and sealing, 3M 4200, a polysulfide like Lifecaulk, or even a quality exterior grade silicon (since it is not a below the waterline application) will work well. All of these products have very good-to-excellent adhesion, flexibility and service life.

The products like 3M4200 and 3M5200 are adhesive sealants. To seal the joint line between deck panels you just need a caulk. You aren't trying to glue them together permanently. You should use a caulk that is a good color match for the deck panels. The caulk is just there as a gap filler and to keep water from draining under the deck panels.
