Outboard rigging for 1989 18' Outrage

Postby PeteG » Tue May 02, 2017 2:55 pm

Because of the way the PO rigged the battery cables, which were relocated to the console.

I can realistically use my starboard aft cleat. Any suggestions?

It looks as if un-tie wrapping and moving the wiring on the high side might alleviate the problem, but I thought I'd ask if anyone had other bright ideas?

Thanks,

Pete

If it were mine I would try to raise all that wiring and stuff up under the coaming and flat against the outside of the hull.

Con,

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure I could get the wiring and steering line flat enough to the wall of the gunwale to pass the dock line through to the gunwale to the cleat.

The Outrage has the oblong hole, where the dock lines pass through the oblong hole down to the cleat. Presently these wires and steering line are blocking clear passage of the dock line.

I can get the line through, but it would result in possible chaffing of both.

Pete, you caught me with an old guy's bad memory. Had to go to the barn and look at mine.

My fuel line and bilge pump are hung under the coaming but to the inside edge. My steering is just laying over the splash well.

Con,

Thanks again. My fuel is down (you can see the stainless clamp on the water separator on the left-hand side of the pic), as are a few cables. My steering is up, as is the transducer and control cables (I have twin Johnson 70s).

I have slack, so maybe I'll cut the tie wraps, undo do the cable loops and see what the possibilities are.

Thanks again,

Pete

Con,

While I have you and access to your reference vessel, what goes here?

It looks as if a hatch was in place there, but there's too many control cables coming out (I think)....

Thanks again,

Pete

There may have been a little cover for the sump when the boats came from the factory. Mine looks like yours with no cover that I've ever had.

Con,

Thanks again. I was concerned about seawater getting in there and where it might end up, as well as if I had a missing part or hatch.
