Wood under console rotted out

Yesterday while crossing Galveston bay, the console on my 1979 Montauk came detached from the deck. When I got home I noticed the mahogany that attaches the console to the deck was completed rotted out. Has anyone used anything besides mahogany to replace these? I am thinking starboard would be better because it is water and weather resistant.
