2007 190 Montauk Rubber Anchor Hatch Latch Replacement

Postby Whalerdog » Fri Jun 02, 2017 7:28 pm

On the front deck hatch [of a 2007 190 Montauk] there is a male and female latch pair. [The 2007 190 Montauk rubber male and female latch pair] don't last long. They dry rot. I doubt [the rubber latch pair were] made just for Boston Whaler. I called [some unspecified] dealer for two days with no results. I bought a few [2007 190 Montauk Rubber Anchor Hatch] last time. I have no clue if any are left, or if I can't find them.

Does anyone sell [a replacement male and female latch pair used on the front deck of a 2007 Boston Whaler 190 MONTAUK boat]?

Anyone like a marine supply?

Thanks.

Next time you have a need for a Whaler part, call Sue Lodel, Parts Manager @ Twin Cities Marine. They are a Master Whaler dealer and she is the gold standard for service.

I recently got one from our local Marine Max Boston Whaler dealer. Took only a couple of days.

This is a part that frequently fails even with relatively light use. I noticed that on our 190 Montauk the male and female parts were not well aligned. Seems to me that the misalignment creates stress at any time the locker is closed. It looks as though the parts are attached with screws in the hull and the locker lid. If that's the case I'll try to adjust the lid part to line up with the hull piece a little better. I'll also try a little periodic 303 treatment to extend the life of the "rubber" pieces.

To reduce friction when rubber parts are mated, try wetting the rubber with a mixture of alcohol and water. That is only a temporary remedy, as the water-alcohol will evaporate. Applying silicon with a spray may be a better long-term solution. Of course, the friction between the rubber components is what is necessary to hold closed the hatch. Perhaps the real problem is the rubber used in this product is not particularly well chosen for the application and lacks durability.

Marine Max makes you / me fax a signed order giving them permission to charge your card for the parts. What a PITA. In this day and age I can't believe it! Plus I bought the boat there new.
