Trailer with KNOTT Waterproof Bearings

Postby PatSea » Sun Jun 18, 2017 11:35 am

I just recently bought my first Boston Whaler boat, a 1972 Sport 13 in very good condition. I'm now a Whaler fan.

I have a problem that I'm hoping someone can help with. The boat trailer is a very nice 2010 galvanized steel E-Z-Loader trailer. One of the trailer bearings is rough and loud and needs to be replaced. I figured this was no big deal and I would replace both of them since I don't know the trailer history. Unfortunately this trailer has waterproof automotive type bearings that are not intended to be greased or even replaced. The hub cap is marked KNOTT waterproof.

I have found that a company now sells replacement hub and bearing assemblies for this type axle, and I'm thinking of buying three of them to replace the current two on the trailer and have one as a spare.

Does anyone have any experience with automotive-type waterproof KNOTT-brand wheel bearing and their replacement? Thanks.
