2001 Optimax 225

Postby Opti49er » Tue Jul 04, 2017 10:37 am

My 2001 Mercury OptiMax 225 outboard engine won't start, but will turn over. I can leave the key in the on position and in 15 seconds I will receive a large beep with one of the electrical fuel pump coming on. This will continue as long as I leave the key in this position. I don't get the first system check beep before I start as I use to. Have 80 psi air on port rail and have not gotten to record fuel PSI on starboard rail. Battery is good as is the kill switch. Has anyone ever experience this pattern on their engine? Any help would be greatly appreciated Pre thanks and regards Opti49er

Use an in-line spark gap tester to verify spark on all cylinders.

There are diaphragms in the fuel rail that are prone to go bad on the Opti's. There are a few people that can rebuild them but direct from Mercury you have to replace the entire rail. Do a google search on Optimax Fuel Rail Diaphragm.
