Ventura 210: Water Getting Into Storage Compartment

Hi. On our 2006 Boston Whaler Ventura 210, the footing of watertight storage compartment on the port side (where the toilet is) has started to take in water from the front compartment. This is due to the base in which the screws are tied in cannot hold the screws anymore (please see pictures).

Is there something we can do to reinforce the base so we can get the screws back in and caulk the moulding? A compound?

If threaded fasteners have lost their purchase in the material they are supposed to be held by, one remedy is to repair those screw holes by filling them with a mix of epoxy and a high-density filler material. Usually you would drill out the fastener holes to enlarge them somewhat, then fill the enlarged holes with a mix of epoxy resin and filler. Once the epoxy cures fully, you can drill new pilot holes into the epoxy-filler, and then carefully rethread the screw fasteners.

I am not familiar with the 210 VENTURA hull and its particular layout and construction, so I can't say for certain this method will work. Usually in the construction of a Boston Whaler boat, if there is a screw fastener that is expected to have strong retention into its threaded base material, an appropriate underlying reinforcement material will have been embedded into the hull during original fabrication to provide the necessary strength or purchase for the fastener to hold.

Contact Boston Whaler customer service. Chuck Bennett or one of his colleagues should have an answer for you.

Also, it appears that the cleat that supports the base of the bulkhead has warped. If that part has warped and taken a set, you may need to repair it first, so it lays flat.
