Hey guys--I am really new to our new 2004 190 Nantucket. Has any NANTUCKET been modified to add a raw washdown?
Also--where should loudspeakers be placed [for best reproduction of music]?
Thanks--M

Yes, I added a wash down pump on mine, then added a 14 gal bladder and a y-valve to make it a combination raw/fresh water wash down. Works great.

Thanks I did read your discussion. I am thinking a y-valve on the existing raw water plumbing and a port on leaning post. Haven't measured the pressure yet so still in the planning stage. Had this on one of my boats and it work well.
I liked the port you setup.

Loudspeakers for accurate reproduction of stereophonic music recordings should be at ear level and in front of the listener. The separation between loudspeakers should be about the same distance as from the loudspeaker to the listener.
Since the helm is usually where the listener is located, and since there is usually a windshield, loudspeakers cannot be placed forward of the windshield. This constrains the loudspeaker location to aft of the windshield, generally very close to the helmsman, and separated by only two to three feet.
To prevent the powerful permanent magnets in the loudspeaker from deflecting ship's compass, keep the loudspeakers as far away from the compass as possible, and use loudspeakers with magnetic shields that contain their magnetic fields.
There are NO circumstances in which any cutting away of any part of the hull and cockpit structure could ever be justified in order to install loudspeakers for music reproduction.

There are very high quality ear buds available. The advantages are numerous. They are low cost, do not require any installation, do not disturb other boaters and the volume can be set by the wearer. I believe I read that some may use Bluetooth technology. Or, everyone can be advised to bring their own music.

Kind of funny about the speakers.
I had generally decided that cutting the hull or console would devalue our investment.
I am probably going with a concealed stereo that can be controlled by bluetooth and my iPhone.
The cooler stereo sounded like a good idea, but I really need the cooler for a cooler since no fish box on the little ol' Outrage.
I was thinking of some mount-to-rail speakers maybe for each side of console.

I highly recommend the thread (linked above) as a source of information. Ivan's illustrated article shows in detail his fine installation of a raw water washdown pump.

I installed my 2 JL Audio MX650 6.5" speakers on the same location that Whaler installs them from the factory on the 190 Outrage, which is at the bottom of the console as far aft as possible. I don't have a good picture of the speaker locations but I have a picture showing my dual battery setup where it shows the starboard speaker from the inside.
Look at this old episode of Ship Shape TV, the host has a 190 Nantucket, and he has 2 speakers mounted behind the live well, on the inside bulkhead of the splash well facing forward. I've been thinking of installing another pair of speakers there, but honestly, the sound from the 2 on the console is fantastic.

As a new owner, you should know of all the diagrams and parts list that are available for your boat. On Boston Whaler's site under Resources are Spec diagrams and parts lists for your model and after it was renamed the Outrage 190.
For 2004 there are over 40 diagrams.
https://www.bostonwhaler.com/boat-ownership/resources/
SELECT YEAR, MODEL FAMILY, MODEL then DIAGRAMS. Each link opens a PDF.
In more recent model years they added options. These diagrams can help you see how Whaler did the install.
In 2012 they show the livewell rigging and where you can adapt it for a raw water washdown.

Thanks Phil !!
I had already downloaded all the 2004 files. Did not think of getting a new file, but it makes sense because the hull is the same...

Locating loudspeakers at you feet cannot be "the best place." It's one place but under no circumstance could it be the best place.
Loudspeakers should be at ear level, in front of the listener, and directed toward the listener.

Jim I agree with you about best sound being eye level. We have a theatre room in our home with DTS 7.1.
The sound system on out boat can never be perfect. Many folks confuse good sound system with a loud sound system. I would like to avoid cutting console so I am looking at speakers that attach to rail or can go under gunwales.
Thanks,
M
