Tachometer Placement

Postby PJMSport15MY1984 » Mon Oct 30, 2017 2:20 pm

Hey Everybody--I am just trying to get some feedback on where people prefer to look at their Tachometer since I am in the process of redesigning the steering console on my family's classic sport 15. Do you prefer it to be mounted on the port side or the starboard side? Please respond. Take care--Paul

I prefer the tachometer mounted directly above the steering wheel shaft through the console space allowing. Low enough so the wheel rim does not block the operators view of the tach. To me the tach is the most important and frequently observed instrument on a boat. It tells you literally everything about your boat's performance. Next in importance is the voltmeter.

At the helm on my boat, the engine tachometer is place just forward of the throttle lever.

Mine is placed right above the steering wheel so it is visible through the spokes of the wheel.

If you have the room then placing the tach right in front of you is best. Lacking room then anywhere that you have a clear unobstructed view is fine. I too operate with one eye on the tach as it is essential to proper motor performance.
