1995 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE or GUARDIAN 17

Postby Shickalee » Sat Nov 18, 2017 10:19 pm

I recently purchased a 1995 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE or GUARDIAN 17 from the Virginia DNR. The hull is stripped, so I am planning to add:

--a new rub rail,
--center console,
--bow rail, and
--a console seat.

I could use some help from a Outrage 17 owner for some suggestion and measurements. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

For starters:

--please advise the length from the transom to the rear of the console base

--I obtained a full bow rail from a 1995 19' Outrage. I need to make modifications to the 19' Outrage rail to fit my 17' Outrage. Does the front of the bow rail extend past the bow or does it end exactly at the front of the bow? What is the height from the point of the bow to the bottom of the bow rail?

--I would like to get the widest rub rail possible, any suggestions?

Thanks,
Skip

The newer single piece black rubber rub rail can be seen at your local dealer. It is heavy but not quite to a commercial level and does a good job.

Mine is a 1992 Outrage 17

length from the outboard transom to the rear of the console base = 60"

Does the front of the bow rail extend past the bow. No, the point of the rail is set back approx 2 1/2" from the point of the bow

What is the height from the point of the bow to the bottom of the bow rail? 16"

Hope this helps!

Boat you have is actually 17 justice and Virginia DNR is first recipient of this hull . I just sold my 2001 17 justice and boat interior is slightly different than 17 outrage that I also used to own. I wouldnt install full bow rail on that hull but mid hull section one to follow original one. You probably have pre drilled holes already.

Andrew -

Do you have a few photos of your old Justice to view? I am interested to see its setup.

Post here or email them to me.

Forgot you sold your Outrage 17. Replaced by a ......?

Thanks.

Here is my layout with original dual consoles pulled. Not "sure" at this point if the official model is a Guardian or a Justice?

Good info, I called Boston Whaler Commercial and I was advised that the a commercial hull Pre 96 or 97 would be a Guardian?

I have the original side rails. Kind of a quandary which rail to use. I prefer the safety of the full bow rail for Lake Erie and would prefer the side rails or no rails for fishing on smaller inland lakes.

Here is a pic as I purchased. My intention is to convert from the VA DNR custom dual console setup to a center console for my needs/usage and repower with a 90hp or 115hp Etec.

Actually 95 17 Justice exists based on 96 outrage as weird as it sounds. I know this because I was chasing one few years ago from VA DNR and called Chuck from Whaler customer service to clarify things. Very first few dozen hulls of new redesigned 17 outrage went to them to do some testing before it went to full production scale as recreational model.
What you have is something very interesting and it looks custom. Not a guardian but not a sentry dual console set up either ( Look at 96 SL seating arrangement ). Interesting hull good luck with it. Its gonna be a lot of work making it into center console layout whaler .

The commercial rep said it was an Outrage Commercial with the black dot and slightly higher weight capacity. The capacity plate lists the Model as Outrage 17. As for the dual consoles, that is the only non standard Guardian/Outrage feature on the boat and yes, it is just the Outrage I hull and deck layout except with the 16SL style consoles, per request by VA DNR when order was replaced. The Commercial dept hadn't seen many any other similar dual console Outrage I setups but they are out there. The conversion to Center Console is going to be straightforward, since the hull was originally designed to be for a center console application not a dual console application, so I just need to unscrew the dual consoles from floor and screw in the center console. The boat was stripped of wiring/controls, so running the wiring and controls will basically be the same job with either console setup. The classic Outrage I hull is the hull I wanted for my needs vs the Accutrack hull used on the 96' recreational Outrage models and limited 95' commercial Outrage hulls.
