Sport 15 Wood Restoration

Postby Waterfun » Sun Feb 11, 2018 12:16 pm

I am stripping the seats and console on SPORT 15 using PETTIT "Captain's Varnish 1015." How many coats of the varnish do you recommend?

What sandpaper grit do you recommend using between coats?

Thanks.

As for advice on how to apply varnish, there are many opinions. The one element always mentioned: lots of coats and a build up to the varnish layer.

One element of any varnish: you must treat all the wood. If moisture gets into the wood on any surface, if will tend to lift the varnish off the wood. You must encapsulate the entire wood piece with varnish, not just the topside.
