Drain Tube Replacement

Postby jgf » Mon Jan 04, 2016 11:07 pm

After some google searches, I still can't wrap my head around the replacement process of the brass drain tube. I'm sure it's not brain surgery but I'm a visual learner and need lots of pics and explanation!! There are lots for sale online but seems like several different sizes? My boat is a 1984 15'. Any advise would be very helpful, Thank You in advance!!

See the FAQ #12, "How are drain tubes replaced?"

The answers to frequently asked questions are thoroughly researched and written in a concise style. Do not confuse brevity with lack of information content.

JGF--I have a new un-used brass drain tube. I bought 2 from Nauset Marine 2 years ago, but only needed one. It was for our 1987 13 Super Sport. If you need it, send me your address and I'll send it off. HOWEVER, you will need to borrow a flaring tool and buy O-rings.

I have an '85 15 footer. After researching the job I elected to epoxy in stainless steel 1" diameter tubes. There was a lot of damage/empty space surrounding the tubes that new brass ones would not have corrected. So I filled that empty space with glass mat and polyester resin after epoxying the tubes in place with Marine Tex. Two seasons now, no leaks, no cracking.
