c.1971 13-footer

New to your forum so hello. I recently bought an older 13-foot Boston Whaler boat. I think it is a 1971 vintage. I've removed a layer of paint to reveal the original gel coat. The interior is blue so according to date lines that indicates pre-1972. The paper work (La. State registration) says its a 1971, but I question its accuracy.

Where is the hull number located?

I've seen a picture with one in the forward storage well but it doesn't appear to be there. I'm just curious to figure it out.

The boat's in pretty good shape structurally but it needs plenty lipstick. I'm in the process of grinding, sanding and prepping the hull for either paint or gel coat--haven't decided. If I can spray gel coat I'd like to but I'm limited by tools, specifically, the largest compressor I have is a 20-gallon 1.6-HP 6.2 CFM @ 40 PSI and 5.3 @ 90. It's a small area so it might do it but I just don't know. If anyone has experience I'm all ears.

The transom has been modified to eliminate the [notch] for a 15-inch shaft depth. It is now just a straight across that measures about 22-inches from center of the bottom to the top of transom. Sounds like that's a pretty common modification for newer outboards--so much for being completely original.

I would appreciate an answer on the hull number and any experience about my compressor's ability to spray gel coat (or paint for that matter) and any other wisdom you'd care to share.

Thanks

Hello Dave. The forum represents only a small portion of the information that has been collected and organized on the CONTINUOUSWAVE WEBSITE since the website began c.1994. You should browse the website beginning from its top page, and you will find links to many more resources than just the forum.

For advice about where to find hull identification numbers, read the answer to the frequently asked questions in the FAQ:

Q2: Where is the Hull Identification Number?

For a 13-footer with a blue interior, the stencil serial number will be on the inboard face of the transom, centered, a few inches below the top of the transom.

There is a long, well-researched article on the history of the 13-foot hull in the REFERENCE section. See
