1976 SPORT 13: Length of Remote Control Cable

Postby vautour » Tue Apr 24, 2018 10:22 am

I just bought a 1976 Boston Whaler Sport 13 here in The Netherlands. I decided to re-power with a new Yamaha F20 four-stroke. Now the dealer asks me which length I need for throttle and shift cables

I googled. Is it correct I need 8-foot shift and throttle cables?

Thanks for your advice.

Kind regards from The Netherlands

I believe the usual rigging method for mechanical remote control cables will have them run back from the starboard gunwale along the gunwale toward the transom, make a 90-degree turn to run parallel to the transom, and then make a 270-degree loop to go to the engine. I suggest you measure that path yourself and see what length you find.

Thx, I would measure it myself but boat is in storage and cannot be entered at present. Hence my question.

I should have mentioned: I am assuming you have side-mount controls and they will be on the starboard gunwale.
