c.1999 Force 50-HP Remote Control Compatibility

Postby Hoss » Tue May 15, 2018 10:48 am

I have a 1999 Force 50-HP outboard and am considering changing to an 2003 Mercury 90-HP two-stroke-power-cycle outboard. Will the controls interchange on both engines?

FORCE was once an independent brand, but I believe Mercury bought them, sold them for a while as a lower-tier option to their Mercury engines, and then eliminated the brand. If the FORCE engine dates from a time when they were owned by Mercury, the remote controls might be compatible.

I suggest you examine the remote controls you have. Note the direction of the actuator motions relative to shift and throttle handle motion, and compare with Mercury controls. Also note the terminations at the engine end of the cables to see if they appear the same as Mercury.
