How to correctly install a gaff holder? Montauk 170

Postby jheiii » Fri Jun 15, 2018 11:00 am

Hi all,

I have a 4 foot Gaff, with a 2 inch hook and need to mount it inside the boat. I'm picking up a gaff holder from Birdsall, this comes with two # 10 x 1", Self Taping Screws included to mount. Anything I need to be aware of or any tips before drilling these in?

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the wood diagram of your boat https://www.bostonwhaler.com/boat-ownership/resources/ and no wood is on the vertical plane inside the side of the boat.
As there is no real weight to your gaff you could use brass threaded rubber well/expansion nuts as sold by any hardware store and to gether with some 5200 should give you enough mounting strength for the brackets.
